Samsung Galaxy S III 4G announced, coming to Telstra & Optus

Great news fellow Australians! It seems like both Telstra and Optus will be getting the Samsung Galaxy S III 4G after all, a phone which everyone has been asking for since day one. This is just another impressive feature that the Galaxy S III, widely regarded as the best ‘current’ Android device, is getting and the best news of all is that it’s available for pre-order from today (Optus & Telstra). The difference here is that the phone will be slightly thicker due to it’s 4G implementation  (correction: will remain the same size and weight, because science), and the White colored phone is no longer an option – instead it will be available in Onyx Black and Titanium Gray. The 3G version will continue to sell normally as it did before, on the same plans and colors.

“The Australian market continues to demonstrate a diverse set of consumer needs and we are committed to responding to this with a wide portfolio of products. Following the recent success of the Samsung GALAXY S III, the addition of the 4G powered GALAXY S III Onyx Black and Titanium Gray is part of our ongoing commitment to leading the charge in technology innovation and choice,” said Tyler McGee, Vice President Telecommunications, Samsung Electronics Australia.

“The smart and intuitive GALAXY S III 4G takes this to an exciting level through our strong carrier partnerships, with the opportunity to offer this device to Australian consumers that want the fastest network speeds,” he said.

The other change also being that the Galaxy S III, when released will be preloaded with Jelly Bean, aka Android 4.1 (though with Samsung’s boring skin on top), though the specs in the rest of the device should remain as they were, which is a good thing. Optus has also announced their 4G network starting up in Perth and Sydney, and Melbourne is on the cards next but not dates have been given as of yet.

So basically those of you looking forward to a 4G Galaxy S III can breath easy knowing that it’s on it’s way (we’d estimate early October), so get your preorders in sooner, rather than later. Press release details are below as well.
