Confirmed – Australians to pay $14.99 to upgrade to Windows 8 (with conditions)

We’ve known for some time that American purchasing Windows 7 copies in the future would be getting a great $14.99 upgrade to Windows 8, provided they purchase their Windows 7 PC between June 2, 2012 and January 31, 2013 (and the upgrade has to be purchased before the end of February 2013). And it seems us Aussies will be able to hook onto the same deal, as confirmed my Microsoft! Luckily, there would be lot’s of people looking to buy Windows 7 PC’s with the influx of great ultrabooks on their way so they might be getting a good deal. Of course, we still have yet to see how much these Windows 8 copies will actually cost so we’ll try and get word on that for the future.

The copy you’ll be upgraded to will be Windows 8 Pro, so it’s actually a decent deal regardless of whether you want to upgrade or not because $15 is chump change when you consider Windows 7 Professional costs closer to $200 than $100. Of course, again, you won’t be able to get this deal until Windows 8 is actually out so you might as well buy a proper Windows 8 machine straight off the bat, as a lot of them will be touchscreens to accommodate Windows 8’s Metro UI. Most computers should be able to run Windows 8 as well, unless you have a rubbish cheap netbook lying around (boy did that fad die out quick, much like Kony 2012!).
