Sony Xperia S coming to Australia in April
Sony have just announced that the Sony Xperia S will finally be making it’s way down to Australia in April, a move that we’re sure is going to please a lot of people out there. The Sony Xperia S is of course Sony’s first foray into the mobile world after their partnership with Ericsson ended late last year. We recently got our Sony Xperia S (thanks to none other than Clove Technology) yesterday as you can see in the image above (apologies for the image, the light was a little off) and so far we’re enjoying the device quite a bit. The only issue we have of course is the fact it doesn’t come preloaded with ICS, but that’s for another article.
Key features of Xperia S are:
- Screen – 4.3 inch Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine with HD resolution screen (1280 x 720), as well as front (720p) and back (1080p) cameras for HD recording.
- Processor – 1.5Ghz dual core processor
- Storage – 32GB Flash storage
- Camera – 12MP back camera with Sony Exmor R
- NFC enabled
- HD sharing through DLNA, HDMI
- Android 2.3. Will be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich in Q2, 2012.
As for local availability, Sony told us the following information (Pricing will be announced separately):
– Optus: Xperia™ S available in Black from early April.
– Vodafone: Xperia™ S available in White from 11 April.
– Crazy John’s: Xperia™ S available in Black and White from 11 April.
– Xperia™ S in Black available to purchase outright at JB HiFi, Dick Smith Electronics, Allphones, Telechoice and Harvey Norman. Launch dates and prices will be announced by retailers.
It’s odd that Telstra won’t be selling this directly, but since JB HiFi is generally a Telstra store, you can be assured this phone will work on Telstra (it has their Next-G frequency after all). It’s an exciting phone and click here to read our review (great for those of you wondering how well this phone performs BEFORE purchasing the phone).
If however you can’t wait till then, we suggest you go ahead and order one from Clove UK today (for about $543), it even comes with $45 of free accessories! Click here for more information.
