HTC confirms Ice Cream Sandwich for 16 phones, HTC users delighted

So a bit back we wrote that HTC had announced that a few models would be getting Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich and it seems today HTC has expanded that list officially to 16 phones so hooray for those of you who will get the upgrade. To be honest, we’re actually surprised to see so many phones on the list considering some of them are starting to show their.. maturity. Either way, this is a great move by HTC to keep their user base happy and excited with fresh upgrades. Still the issue remains in that ICS came out exactly 5 months ago, and HTC have only just announced their lineup but we can hope they’ve been working hard these last 5 months to make sure that they’ll be getting their icy cool upgrade soon. Either way, the list is as follows:

  • DROID Incredible 2 by HTC
  • HTC Amaze 4G
  • HTC Desire S
  • HTC Desire HD
  • HTC EVO 3D
  • HTC EVO Design 4G
  • HTC Incredible S
  • HTC Sensation
  • HTC Sensation XL
  • HTC Sensation 4G
  • HTC Sensation XE
  • HTC Raider
  • HTC Rezound
  • HTC Rhyme
  • HTC Thunderbolt
  • HTC Vivid

Not a bad list if we say so ourselves.

“We are working closely with our carrier partners to nail down update schedules for our other smartphones and will have more to share very soon,” HTC’s Darren Krape noted in a blog post. That’s a good thing considering there’s a lot of testing to be done and phones such as the HTC Sensation and Sensation XE are already having their updates distributed to carriers for further testing and he Sensation 4G and Sensation XL expected to follow in the next few weeks. Do note that once HTC has finished and passed on their updates to carriers, it’s up to the carrier’s to decide on when you’ll get it!

We hope other carriers such as Samsung and Motorola step up their game soon and get all their devices updated, or at least start making phones with ICS installed! It can’t be this hard to put ICS on their latest models can it? Well we suppose it’s hard to complain when we don’t do any testing ourselves but we’re just pointing out the obvious.

Either way, there’s still no timelines for when you’re getting it, but we can only hope before June so sit back and enjoy the last few weeks (to months) of Gingerbread, because after ICS you’ll never look back.
