Microsoft release Xbox App for iPad and iPhone

Well it looks like Microsoft has been busy for not only the Windows Phone Platform, but they’ve gone ahead and created an app for iOS devices and the interesting this is that the App is very good. The Apps (called My Xbox Live) themselves are both free for the iPad and iPhone (and iPod Touch too, but that goes under the iPhone category). We tried it out on the iPad and as you can see from the screenshots below, the graphics within the app look fantastic. Furthermore, the app is very smooth and while it does buffer and lag a little, it’s a great effort from the Microsoft team.

Within you’ll find the same thing’s you’ll find on your Windows Phone or Xbox 360 with a Home Screen (where there are lot’s of videos to watch within the spotlight gallery). There’s also a Social section where you’ll be able to see all your friends on Xbox Live and you can see how many Xbox Live points you have as well as an animated avatar exactly like on the 360 (and you can also edit your avatar straight from the App). Lastly, there’s the Games section where you can get a breakdown of your games and how many points you’ve got for each one. The important thing to remember is that this is all layed out with the Metro interface right across the platform giving non Windows Phone users a chance to witness the beauty and fluidity of the Windows Platform. Perhaps Microsoft is hoping that people will really like this app and end up making their way to the Windows Phone platform in the future (and it’ll probably give iOS users a chance to get used to the upcoming Windows 8 platform expected out mid 2012).

Either way, we like it and it’s a smart move to make such a great app for Apple devices (sorry Android users, no luck for you yet). People might complain that this is giving away Windows Phone’s greatest edge over other Operating Systems, but if this results in people adopting the Windows Phone platform down the line then it might have just payed off for Microsoft. For now just have a look at the pictures below and see for yourselves (click to expand) or head on over to the App Store and Download away!
