Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sales top $775 million in five days

We’re frankly quite mind blown by the enormity of the Call of Duty’s success, but this takes it to a whole new level! New statistics have just been revealed, and it seems that the latest Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare 3 has been an enormous hit worldwide, and that’s putting it mildly. MW3 sales have toped $775 million in just five days, becoming the biggest entertainment launch (sales wise) ever. This of course means it takes the record away from last years Call of Duty: Black Ops which pulled in $650 million of sales in 5 days, which beat our Modern Warfare 2 which pulled in $550 during it’s first 5 days two years ago.

Mind Blowing stuff. Activition went on to further boast that MW3 was the top selling game of all time in North America at Amazon.com, GameStop, Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart. Figures, that people are extremely crazy about this game and there are gaming statistics to prove that – Activision and Microsoft said the Xbox 360 version of the game saw 3.3 million players log more than 7 million multiplayer hours in the game’s first day on sale, beating the 2.6 million players and 5.9 million multiplayer hours Black Ops managed a year before. Furthermore, Modern Warfare 3 also set a concurrent player record on Xbox Live, with 3.3 million players online simultaneously on launch day as it seems like the records keep on tumbling, although there is a way to go before they beat out Avatar’s $2 billion intake worldwide.

There were no statistics from the PS3 side of things from Sony, but you can gather from the numbers above that the game was extremely popular on the platform as well. Funny that just a few days ago we were talking about how MW3 had already shattered records, and today we get more news that records have tumbled. It’s quite an impressive achievement for the COD franchise, and we’ve got to hand it to them on a job well done, at least in the sales department. The major question now, is whether they can pull off the same feat next year, with the amount of Negative criticism the game as obtained in recent days on sites such as Metacritic, and especially with the Battlefield franchise on a sharp rise too. We wouldn’t be too sure, but never say never.

What can we say, Modern Warfare 3 is Winning.
