Windows Phone 7 turns one years old
It’s been one rocky road for the Windows Phone in the past year, but things are really starting to look up now as the platform gains popularity and traction. 1 year ago, a brand new Operating System was launched with a fresh and ‘hip’ new look, the likes of which had never been seen before, especially from Microsoft. Fast forward 1 year and 2 updates later (Nodo and Mango) and we suddenly find ourselves looking at one of Microsoft’s best products ever. The critics love it, the users love it. There really is no where to go but up.
It’s an interesting week this, as one year ago Europe and Australia received their first shipments of the magnificent OS, which (as expected) took a while to gain any kind of traction. In fact, it took a good 4 months before I saw anyone else using a Windows Phone in the wild. 1 year later, the platform is finally seeing an increase in market share (although not fast enough). The Mango release has however pushed WP7 to become a whole new beast, and with that in mind – it’s only a matter of time before Android and iOS have to start looking over their shoulders at the incoming threat. Here’s the Year 2.
