Motorola Droid RAZR Announced, Goes Thinner than them all
Update: Check out Clove UK if you want to purchase the phone. It costs £379.00 or AUD$580 before shipping and will be available from the 7th of November onwards.
Yep, you heard that right! The much anticipated and drop dead droolworthy Motorola Droid RAZR was unleashed (we mean announced) today at the Motorola’s “Big Innovation” event and boy are we stunned at how much this phone has to work with. We ran a preview a few weeks back, back when we thought it might be called the Motorola Spyder, and it’s basically the same phone but it will officially be known as the Motorola Droid RAZR now, a competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy line and HTC’s Sensation line and a worthy competitor is will be.
To start with, here’s a quick recap of the specs (although you can read more in our full preview of it in the link above for Motorola Spyder):
- Processor – 1.2GHz Dual Core processor
- Memory – 1GB RAM
- Camera – 8 megapixel rear camera, with 1080p video recording capabilities
- Screen – 4.3-inch qHD (quarter HD) Super AMOLED Display
- 4G-LTE Device
- Thickness – 7.1mm! (wow!)
- Dimensions – 130.70mm x 68.90mm x 7.1mm
We are seriously blown away by how thing this device will be, becoming the thinnest mainstream smartphone device in the world! To put that in perspective, the iPhone 4S is 9.33mm thick, meaning the Droid RAZR just blows the iPhone 4 out of the market. That’s not all, it’s built to be durable as well, with Kevlar backing for the strength to protect your phone from a drop (or 3) and something Motorola are calling Splash Guard — a nano-coating that protects components from splashes (yea we’re not so sure either right now) and Gorilla Glass to keep your screen scratch free. Clearly you are now immune from bullets. Actually not really, but how often do we get to say that?!
We’re still going gaga (pardon the pun) over the phones thickness! I just think we might be too scared to snap the device in half, such is the proportions. If you’re not convinced, then you should also know the Motorola Droid RAZR will have also included Lapdock 100 and 500 Pro compatibility with the phone, something many users may (or may not) require depending on their need (the ability to use your phone as a PC, on a dock). What can we say we’re really starting to dig Motorola’s new innovation, ‘with sexy curves to boot’ as Motorola likes to say. We haven’t found a reasonable argument against that yet.
As for Australia, this is looking like a Optus Exclusive, judging by the phone page and as well on the Optus Motorola Page. Seems that pre-orders in Australia start on the 24th of October (The Motorola RAZR will be for $0 on the $59 Optus Cap Plan). In the USA, it’s a Verizon exclusive and you can start pre-ordering that straight from the Big Red on the 28th of October, with a November availability for $299 on contract..
