Nokia N9 confirmed for Australia, USA misses out
It seems for once on the tech side, it’s good to be in Australia as opposed to The United States! Engadget recently reported that the much anticipated Nokia N9 will be missing out on a launch in the United States, as Nokia will be focusing their efforts on bringing the fabulous Windows Phone 7 Operating System to The USA in a big way, and in the process dropping support for their aging Symbian OS. While that’s great news, we do feel like Americans will be missing out on on a great device (N9).
Either way, we contacted Nokia over the last 48 hours to inquire if the N9 would be making it’s way down under and we were quite overjoyed to hear that the device will be making it’s way to Australia. The Nokia Rep was able to confirm that the device will me making it’s way to us within the next few weeks, but stopped short of declaring an official release date, or which carriers would be selling the device (but word has it that it will be a Vodafone exclusive in Australia, which is terrible for the N9 since Vodafone’s network is currently quite poor). She was also unable to give pricing details on the device, but assured us that the information would be released on their Press site soon so we’ll try to bring you that as soon as we find out.
For those of you who are unaware of the N9, it may be one of Nokia’s best products to be released in Australia. Some of the features include a 16:9, 3.9-inch AMOLED screen, NFC technology, An eight-megapixel Carl Zeiss auto-focus sensor and wide-angle lens (expected to me similar to the one featured on the N8), Dolby Headphone and Dolby Digital Plus support, up to 64GB on board storage and it will be running Nokia’s last OS – MeeGo. These are juicy specs, even if the phone may be feared ‘dead before arrival’ due to Nokia dropping all other Operating Systems for Windows Phone.
For what it’s worth, we’ll be eager to get our hands on this beauty of a device and in the meantime, we’ll just have to stay content waiting for Nokia to release any further information which you can find here.
For what it’s worth, the Nokia N9 will also be launching in these countries: Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Finland, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, UAE, and Vietnam, based on what we have heard.
