Rooted Android Devices won’t have access to Movies on Android Market

So if you’ve got a Rooted (aka Jailbroken) Android Device, and have been looking forward to downloading movies from the Android Market, turns out you might be out of luck! Contrary to Android’s Open Platform Idea, Google seems to be blocking access to the movie store “due to requirements related to copyright protection”. So apparently Rooting your device = Thieves who are also Illegal Downloaders?!

Come on Google, that’s a little silly isn’t it? I mean you openly allow rooting to your devices without consequence, but now you’re forcing people to choose between Rooting their devices (and that doesnt’ necessarily mean for downloading fake games and apps) and the movie store. What happens when people would rather stay with their rooted devices, how would the movie store fare?

Luckily so far the user base of people who can actually access the Market is small, so it won’t be a big issue till phones and other Android devices start getting access to the Movie Market. Either way, we’re sure some smart cookie will discover a workaround eventually, but till then you have a decision to make!
